Nilson Moreira da Silva

Nilson has recently joined Laura VanderVliet Eventing to build on its teaching and training operations.

Nilson’s equestrian career began at an early age taking care of polo ponies, and by the age of 14 he switched to grooming for the Brazilian National Team and traveled with the team to the 1995 Pan American Games and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Nilson brings a wealth of horsemanship and show jumping experience to Laura VanderVliet Eventing. This partnership offers a unique depth of teaching and training offered to the eventing community.

After graduating high school, Nilson turned to show jumping, riding and teaching at a private facility in Atibaia, Brazil. His career has included national show jumping wins as well as work and travel with Alvaro Miranda (Doda) and Athina Onasis — two of the world’s leading show jumping riders.

Returning to eventing and the United States in 2011, Nilson has successfully competed through the two-star level with several top placings. He plans to remain in the US to train and hopes to compete through the advanced levels and to represent Brazil at the World Games and Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Nilson’s enthusiasm for the horses is contagious. He has started several young horses and is accepting outside horses for training. He is available for clinics and is accepting new students. His lessons are fun, challenging, and appropriate for all levels.
